The effectiveness Student’s Ability in Writing Recount Text through Guiding Questions Technique at SMP Negeri 2 Paciran Lamongan

In this research, the Researcher wants to know the effectiveness of the student’s ability in Writing Recount Text through Guiding Questions Technique, to know the process of teaching writing Recount Text through Guiding Questions technique and also to know the response of the students by Writing Recount Text through Guiding Questions Technique. The title of this research is, “The effectiveness of the student’s ability in Writing Recount Text through Guiding Questions Technique at the  eighth year students of SMP Negeri 2 Paciran in the Academic Year of  2013/2014”, shows that Guiding Questions Technique is the appropriate technique to overcome some problems stated above.
            The design used in this research is the experimental research that there are 38 students. The data was taken from the students’ worksheet trough pre-test before giving treatment, and post-test after giving treatment to know the effectiveness of Guiding Questions Technique, and explaining the treatment process to know the process of teaching and learning, and also giving questionnaires to know the students’ attitude toward the implementation of the technique.
            Based on the analysis, it shows that the process of teaching writing through Guiding Questions Technique makes the activities run well. It also shows that the implementation of Guiding Questions Technique is effective because the t-value is higher than t-table (5.45 > 2.02) and the students are interested to studying English, especially English writing after the implementation of Guiding Questions Technique.           
The data was obtained from the writing test, Questionnaire and the treatment record showed that this method motivate the students to write English and develop the students’ interest in English skill in writing
            English is an International language. It is uses all over the world. For that reason, it is important for people to master English orally and in writing, in order to be able to communicate and socialize with the world community.
English is the first foreign language taught at every school in Indonesia. The Indonesia government chooses English as the first foreign language to be taught in school and as a major subject for the students from elementary school to university students, they realize how important English in their life, so they intend to master it, in such a way that they can use English to communicate with other people all over the world. Students must master four language skills, they are; listening, speaking, reading and writing. Based on the concept and function, English has the purpose to develop those four skills and the language components, for instances; vocabulary, structure, spelling, commas, punctuation (in writing) or pronunciation (in speech) which support students master English well. In mastering English, students find difficulties dealing with language skills and language components as mentioned above. Most students are not interested in studying English, especially in writing. Based on my experience, there are some problems found when giving writing materials to the students, especially the recount text.
            The first problem is that the students’ writing is not comprehensible, because the composition is not relevant to the topic, the ideas are not clearly stated, the ideas and sentences are not well organized. The second problem is that there are many errors in vocabulary, grammar, and spelling. Another problem is the students’ low motivation and are not interested in doing the task since the writing activities are not interesting. Usually, the students are asked to write sentences and paragraphs without being given some clue so that it is difficult for them to express they ideas on a piece of paper.
            In the competence based curriculum 2004, recount is being taught in the eighth year students in the first semester, so in the second semester of the eighth year students have mastered how to write a good recount composition in English. They have had the basic of making a good composition in English. Contrasted with the fact, we still find any mistakes from the students who try to write their recount text. Most of students have problems in finding a good diction for their recount writing, improving the idea and use of the grammar within the story.
            . Concerning the problems that the students faced when they tried to express their ideas into written form, a teacher should choose an appropriate technique in teaching recount text writing. One of the techniques which can be applied in teaching recount text writing is Guided Writing in the form of Guiding Questions.
 The researcher chose guided writing in the form of guiding questions as a technique to develop the students’ ability in writing recount text because it gives the opportunity for the students to develop their own idea freely by answering the questions given by the teacher. 
In other words, the researcher conducted guided writing in the form of guiding questions as a method in developing the students’ ability in writing recount text. Therefore, the research is entitled “The Effectiveness Student’s Ability In Writing Recount Text through Guiding Questions Technique at SMP Negeri 2 Paciran”.
