Language
is a form of thinking that can be understood, in touch with reality,
and have the shape
and structure of the
logical. We cannot deny that English is the
language that must be mastered
as an international
language, but unfortunately the
formal school education
and campus less
than optimal in providing proficiency
in the English language to
the students and also
students, so many
people who need
education outside the formal
education to improve
English language skills.
Now
days, along with the strengthening position of English as a language as
international communication, the teaching of speaking skill has become
increasingly important in the English as a second or foreign language (ESL/EFL)
context. The teaching of speaking is also important due to the large number of
students who want to study English in order to be able to use English for
communicative purposes. This is apparent in Richards and Renandya’s (2002, p. 201)
publication where they stated, “A large percentage of the world’s language
learners study English in order to develop proficiency in speaking”. Moreover,
students of second/ foreign language education programs are considered
successful if they can communicate effectively in the language (Riggenback and Lazaraton,
1991). The new parameter used to determine success in second language/foreign
language education programs appears to revise the previously held conviction
that student’s success or lack in ESL/EFL was judged by the accuracy of the
language that produced.
Based on the
discussion above, this research intends to develop speaking materials for the
student in English course. The students are not enough if they just study
English at school. Hopefully, the result of this research can be used as means
to develop their English
Method
According to Harmer (1991, pp. 46-47),
there are three reasons why people communicate. First, people communicate
because “they want to say something.” As Harmer explained, the word ‘want’
refers to intentional desire the speaker has in order to convey messages to
other people. Simply stated, people speak because they just do not want to keep
silent. Second, people communicate because “they have some communicated
purposes.” By having some communicative purpose it means that the speakers want
something to happen as a result of what they say. For example, they may express
a request if they need a help from other people or they command if they want
other people to do something. Thus, two things are important in communicating:
“the message they wish to convey and the effect they want it to have” (Hamer,
2001, p. 46). Finally, when people communicate, “they select from their
language store.” The third reason is the consequence of the desire to say
something (first reason) and the purpose in conducting communicative activities
( second reason ). As they have language storage, they will select language
expression appropriate to get messages across to other people. Harmer used the
three reasons to explain the nature of the communication which can be presented
graphically in.
Result
This chapter is
talking about the result of distributing the instrument. The instrument related
with students need assessment, expert validation and try out. the research will
give more detail about the explanation of the study and the research also gives
an explanation about the respondents’
comment by short explanation.
The
data are taken from the students which their need to improve their speaking
skill to develop the materials. The researcher gives some questionnaire to 35
English course students in Smile course Indonesia. The data are taken from the
students who have a good experience in using speaking book and also their need
in English material.
The
explanation of the material in speaking book is needed some additional material
to improve the students skill, especially in their speaking skill, it is found
almost most of students said that the material was not really interesting,
about the topic and the style of language. The students need an interesting
topic and also need more practice.
Discussion
The information
about the students’ interest in learning speaking. The student’s information
was taken from the English teacher. The material is interesting or not. The
researcher can take some point or opinion from the teacher who teaches the
students.
Problem in teaching speaking is complex. It is
not only related with the students’ factor but also about context outside. In
the internal aspects, the problems occurred are related with native language,
age, material, and environment and motivation and concern for good speaking.
The points of those problems are related with condition of the student.
Base
on the analysis done, the researcher try to develop the material. The material
mast suitable with the teacher and students need to improve their speaking skill.
Though there are some elements in language instruction, and learners should be
the center of instruction. However, materials often control the instruction,
since teachers and learners tend to rely heavily on them. Materials that is
appropriate for a particular class need to have an underlying instructional
philosophy, approach, method and technique which suit the students and their
needs. They should have correct, natural, current and Standard English.
Teachers need to look for good materials, both commercial and non-commercial,
all the time. They also need to be aware of commercialism and copyright issues
concerning materials.
To
know the effectiveness of material develop, it is needed to apply to the
students, the researcher will know the result of the product in the real field.
The result of making material has been carried out in
the institution smile Indonesian course that
aims to improve the quality of students in
facilitating learning English, especially
in speaking lessons.
What has been developed in the previous material, a lot of things that need to be improved? Development is expected to add to the
development of the previous material in the application in the classroom for all students.

Conclusion
This study aims to improve
the quality of learning that is in institutions Smile Course Indonesian. To
find a good solution to improve the quality of learning materials that are in
the institution. Ranging from the style of language, topic, and writing of the
language models
There are many quick ways to learn English and how to speak,
practice conversation, and memorize all the rules
of grammar in English. Learn
English much make students frustrated, because
they do not know
how appropriate methods and materials that
support according to the needs of
students. As a result, the
learning they do of course
in vain and do
not produce results significantly. In a quick
way to learn English, there are actually only three easy steps that you can
apply and produce good results. The steps we will describe briefly below.
Suggestion
Based
on the findings of the study, several constructive suggestions are given to the
English teacher and future researcher as follows:
A suggestion for
the teacher to development of speaking skills is influenced by several aspects.
Each aspect may present a separate prospective from which the development of
speaking skills can be viewed. For the purpose of the thesis, teacher’s
perspective and her share in that process has been chosen.
A suggestion for future
researcher is that this book more alteration. It will give more interesting
material if the next researcher gives more material about speaking. . This particular
product contains around 15 chapters with a good material for the students are
going to read extensively every day. Increasing the number of texts is highly
recommended so that the students can be more skillful particularly in speaking.
Speaking needs practice and the material orders the students to make
conversation with all their friends in the class.
