The Portrait of Philosophical Values (the Essence of Life and Love) on “College in America” Script Drama by Lewis D. Eigen in Islamic Perspectives

By Tawvicky Hidayat
Abstract
This article reveals the philosophical values in “College in America” script drama portrayed by Lewis D. Eigen, and this article is to analyze the literary works. The main analysis in this article is to explain the philosophical values in the drama script, which is containing two kinds of values, namely the essence of life and the essence of love. The main purpose of this article is an analysis of one of the literary works. The analyzing of this article is using Islamic perspectives. So that, first, the writer tries to find and analyze the philosophical values, and the second, he tries to combine and analyze it using the perspective of Islam. Furthermore, because of this Islamic perspective, in this article will be found many analysis by using Al-Quran, Al-Hadits, and Ijma’ul Ulama’. The writer chose “College in America” portrayed by Lewis D. Eigen to be analyzed because this script contains many philosophical values of life and love, especially Islamic values. Especially for anyone who wants to take college abroad, this article is very useful. This script is telling the story about Mark Mansur who took college in America, and his father, Abdullah Mansur, is worry and afraid that his son would be contaminated by other person. As known, there are many non-Muslims people in America. And it is done because the father loves him very much. Therefore, his father called Wakil Rachid as senior imam and Mahfudz Ibn Ubaid as his junior to give some advices for his son, mark Mansur. So that, there are many values of life and love in this script Islamic drama by Lewis D. Eigen, which is told beautifully in this script drama by giving some advices told by Wakil Rachid and Mahfudz Ibn Ubaid. This script drama told the reader many philosophical values without any intention to give some advices, in other words, Lewis D. Eigen is genius because he shows Islam softly, gently, and easily, no intending to be a teacher or even a murabby. Derived from that analysis, it is proposed to make this article is useful for the students to take many philosophical values of life and love. So that, for the teacher, it is suggested for them to use this drama to be the instrument to make their zeal, motivation, knowledge, increased, especially who wants to know and analyze the comparison between Islam and America.
Keywords: philosophical values, college in America, the essence of life, the essence of love

Based on Graham Little literature is a study about human life that contains human life feeling, such as happiness, sadness, tragedy, glory, adversity, etc. Literature also means a media for expressing human interest. In fact, literature and life have a quite same meaning each other. It also has an important role in educating students because studying literature is used in formal education as like what Graham Little, in his book Approach To Literature supposed: There is the study of literature. Men have always found it essential, from the most primitive stages of society to the most advanced, to teach their scriptures, lore and legends to their children (Little, 1966, p. 1).
In this article, the writer tries to reveal Islamic drama script. Drama is a term used for that branch of literature that covers dramatic composition. It is known already that drama is a literary art. The basic difference between drama and other forms of literature (prose and poetry) is that drama is presented in dialogue from the beginning to the end. Any information by the playwright is given in stage- direction. There are dialogues in prose and poetry but they are interjected in the course of the story (Iwuchukwu, 2008, p. 5).
Drama is same as novel, short story, and poetry as a narrative art, and it also presents a story. Same as story, it has goal to give interesting and to give pleasure and entertainment. According to Alternbend (1989, p. 1) drama is a narrative art, one of several modes in which mankind has learned to present a story. Stories are represented to give pleasure, to entertain. In addition, they have a wide range a function of society; they may, for example, conserve its legends, order its laws, explore its problems, demonstrate its codes, ridicule, its weaknesses, or extend its knowledge. Stories must in some way happen within the range of human nature; the emotion of the characters, their reason for doing as they do, and how it feels to them to be in such situations must be within the range of responses of the recipient of the story.
This drama “College in America” by Lewis D. Eigen tries to portray many values in life and love. And also, to compare between Islamic teachings and situation of America, and the relationship between America and Muslims people, especially in education. In order that, there are many values of life and love can be taken by the students in this drama script.
Lewis D. Eigen is one of the best writers in America. He has many drama scripts that contain Islamic teachings, the relationship between Islam and other religion, and Islam minority. Some of his drama scripts are College in America, The Martyred Son, The Dinner of the Politician Tunisians, The 100 Millions Muslims Minority, etc. He is not only a drama writer but also a book writer, especially a political book. Some of his greatest book are The Obama Political Appointee Primer, Dictionary of Political Quotations, The Macmillan Dictionary of Political Quotations, and The Managers Book of Quotations. Eigen is a genius writer that can create drama most valuable meaning in Islamic understanding. He is a genius because he can spread a beauty of Islam by drama dialogue that can answer many bad opinions about Islam. He can spread the beauty of Islam in easy way.
College in America is one of Eigen’s best drama script that explores the conditions of Muslims students in America. It reveals how they live, how they interact with non-Muslims students, and how they do worship to Allah in America. In this script, there are many values of life, such as amusement, humoring and honoring parents, to say sorry, a good environment, a good discussion, father’s responsibility, the importance of family members, clan members, and fellow believers, bring up our country, helping others even the unbelievers, prohibition to see aurah, thanking to Allah, the way to dress, parents’ honor, amar ma’ruf nahi munkar, mahram in Islam, dutiful to parents, peace and right, do not blame general thing, tolerance, freedom, prohibition of rape, people tends to follow as ducks do, wisdom of Allah, Allah is the omniscient. And there are many values of love, like love is concerning, love is worrying, love is care, love is feeling afraid, love is appreciation, power of belief in love.

Philosophical Values
Philosophical value refers to the value of philosophy. In other words, it is that field of philosophy that deals with value in general. The content of philosophical value, even fragmentarily, can already be found in ancient times. But, it is in modern times, especially after Kant made his well-known distinction between fact and value, that philosophical value became an important field of study in philosophy.
Based on Mustofa (2014, p. 24) the study of philosophical value, or goodness, in the widest sense of the terms. The significance of this study are:
1.     Considering the giving meaning of the term value.
2.     Unification that has provided of the study of variety.
Philosophy can be defined as people ways of thinking on understanding things or idea, facing people’s life, and solving their problems of life. Usually philosophy is considered the reflection the experiences in life which concerns to humanity. Philosophy also defined as reflection of varieties of human experience, or as the rational, methodical, and systemic consideration of the topics that are of greatest concern of humanity. (taken from www.merriam-webster.com)
Philosophical values tries to comprehend people and how its existence. Dealing with that, it needs understanding two kinds of values, life and love.

Values of Life
Based on the book of “Literary Works: Life and Love” compiled by Mutmainnah Mustofa (2014, p. 27), there are many values of life when someone explores them one by one. They can help someone to develop a clearer sense of what is most important to his or herself in life. Someone can make the personal values in life in order or priority and that personal list of values can get the one to reach the better future. The examples of values of life are: acceptance, accessibility, amusement, appreciation, care, wisdom, peace, belonging, concentration, control, ethics, fame family, freedom, friendship, humor, love, obedience, religiousness, etc.
The core of life is a philosophical question that concerns the significance of life or existence in universal world. It can also be expressed in different forms, such as "Why are we here?", "What is life all about?", and "What is the purpose of existence?" It has been the subject of much philosophical, scientific, and theological speculation throughout history. There have been a large number of proposed answers to these questions from many different cultural and ideological backgrounds. Philosophical value in life is also meant how we bear a meaning in the significance of life. The purpose of bearing the meaning of life is to know the goodness and badness in life, so that people can act something good for other people. If they know the significance of life, they will be able to make the world in harmony, and far from the war and the chaos.
The meaning of life is in the philosophical and religious conceptions of existence, social ties, consciousness, and happiness, and borders on many other issues, such as symbolic meaning, ontology, value, purpose, ethics, good and evil, free will, the existence of one or multiple Gods, conceptions of God, the soul, and the afterlife. Scientific contributions focus primarily on describing related empirical facts about the universe, exploring the context and parameters concerning the 'how' of life.

Values of Love
According to Al-Ghazali, love is seeing with spiritual is sharper than seeing with eyes. It’s because spiritual seeing is more sensitive than eyes. An abstract beauty caught by heart is more passionate than concrete beauty. He continued that a man is a goodness servant, that his heart will love someone who is kind to him. It is different with Allah, the mercies and blessings giver. (Widianti, 2000, p. 55)
According to Montagu, American psycholog, love is feeling of attention, affecting, and liking deeply. Usually, love is followed by missing and desire to the object. (Widianti, 2000, p. 37)
According to Imam Al-Qusyairi Al-Naisaburi in the book of Al-Risalah, love is defined as six types of love, from love is like a pure love and affection, until love as a source of life and a place of glory or a place of contemptible in searching a lover. (Widianti, 2000, p. 37)
In a book of Mutmainnah Mustofa (2014, p. 26) there are many values of love, love is accepting, love is appreciating, love wants the best for them.
Love is a accepting means labeling someone’s okay and no particular desire to change one other. Love is appreciation means when one’s focus on what he really likes about someone. Love is wanting the best means the people want the best for his children’s safety (Mustofa, 2014, pp. 26-27).
There are many kinds of love. As Sternberg stated about components of love, there are three components of love, intimacy, passion, and commitment. From those components, it can be divided into eight categories; they are no love, liking, infatuation, empty love, romantic love, companionate love, fatuous love, and consummate love (Widianti, 2000, p. 60).

Analysis of Lewis D. Eigen’s “College in America”
In this drama script “College in America”, there are many values that contains philosophy. The writer cannot mention one by one because of the limited words in this article. Some of them they are:

Honoring Parents
Honoring parents is one of philosophical values of life. In every religion teaches how to honor parents, how to treat them the best in every condition. There are many data in this drama script concerning this value of life.
“Well you always were and still are a good son, and you humored and honored your father in a day where many young men do not always do so…….
In the data above, Imam said to Mark Mansur that Imam was proud to Mark, because he can humor and honor his father in his old life, since young men did not do it so. To honor parents is an obligation for human. Parents have done his best to educate and teach them about meaningful aspects in life. Parents are first stage of school that teach them before we born to this world until now.
In Islamic perspectives, Islam is a religion that is very concerning in honoring parents. In Islam, to obey parents’ order is the next step after obeying Allah and Rasulullah’s order. If Muslims do not obey parents’ order they will be tortured in the hell. And if they obey parents order they will enter paradise, after obeying Allah and Rasulullah’s order. Islam is one of religion that has commandment to obey parents as long as the commandment is not out of syari’ah. To obey parents in Islam is the obligation, and to fight against them is a prohibition. Even if to say disrespect words to parents is prohibited, more than that to fight against them. As firman Allah in Surah Al-Isra’ ayat 17:
“And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour.” (QS Al-Isra’:17)
And another data of honoring parents is:
“Her father should have been informed so that he can discipline her and regain his honor,” said Mahfuz ibn Ubaid.  “Have you done so?” he asked Mark.
And other data:
Mark was puzzled, “I don’t get it.  I can understand that you believe that women should be all covered up, but why do you refer to the father’s honor?  If anything, it’s the girl’s honor that is at stake.  I’m not going to call her father—it’s none of my business in the first place, and second, I don’t think that it affects him at all.  Aiesha is over 19 years old.”

In the above statement shows  that Mahfudz Ibn Ubaid said that Mark had to inform Aiesha father (because of the way of her dressing) so that he can regain his honor. The data shows that children (son and daughter) must follow their parents command. Furthermore, children must honor their parents (father and mother).
In perspective of Islam, Muslims have to honor their parents. Because of that honor Muslims have to obey their parents. In order that, they have to fulfill their duty to honor parents. For someone whom his parents passed away, he must send prayers for his parents to Allah SWT to protect them. When a child became bad, it was father’s fault because he is not really care on him. It will break father’s honor, not children’s honor. It is because the responsible one of children’s environment is a father. Then, a father was blamed when the children have a bad attitude. So that, children must honor their parents if they want to regain honor from Allah.

Helping Others Even the Unbelievers
Muslims can make friend with the unbelievers or the infidels, but they cannot count on them like they can count on family members, clan, and fellow believers. Sometimes, the kindness of the unbelievers is not sincerely, but the intention and the attention of family members, clan members, and fellow believers are unconditional, it names unconditional love. In Islam helping others, even the unbelievers, is no matter. The forbidden one is to follow their spiritual, religion, culture that outside the Islamic teaching. Also, when people helped them, they also deserved to help by them. As in surah al-kafirun, 109, p. 1-6:
1. Say (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)to these Mushrikûn and Kâfirûn): "O Al-Kâfirûn (disbelievers in Allâh, in His Oneness, in His Angels, in His Books, in His Messengers, in the Day of Resurrection, and in Al-Qadar, etc.)!
2. "I worship not that which you worship,
3. "Nor will you worship that which I worship.
4. "And I shall not worship that which you are worshipping.
5. "Nor will you worship that which I worship.
6. "To you be your religion, and to me my religion (Islâmic Monotheism)."
Like in the data:

“And you in turn would help and protect them if they needed such, would you not?”
That data shows when Abdullah Mansur hesitated that his son, Mark Mansur, will live in America in adversity. In America his son lived alone with no friend, and he was afraid that no one could give him a help. Mark Mansur said that he was helped by American people. And then Imam Wakil Rachid asked Mark Mansur whether he helped them in turn they helped him in any problems. He said that yes he helped him. In this case, Imam Wakil Rachid said that helping the unbelievers is no matter, but to follow their worship is the forbidden one. More than that, to follow their religion and to become infidel is the most forbidden one.
Sometimes, people do not want to help some person because he has a different religion. In Islam it is one of obligation to help others even other religion. People have to obey their parents even they are non-Muslim as long as their command is in one way with Allah command. Helping others even the unbelievers is one of philosophical values in this drama script.
Even if Muslims can rely on the unbelievers, but no one can count on like we can count on our family members, clan members, and fellow believers. Of course Muslims can make friend with the unbelievers, but we cannot count on them like we can count on family members, clan, and fellow believers. Sometimes, the kindness of the unbelievers is not sincerely, but the intention and the attention of family members, clan members, and fellow believers are the greatest love at all.
Like in the data:
“…….It is a throwback to the desert Mark.  If you ran into a group of people who were not friends or relatives they would doubtless rob you and might just as soon slit your throat.  The family, clan, and tribe are all that protected one.  There is no government in the desert.  No other institutions but your own will be of assistance to you.  It’s so ingrained that I believe that your psychologists believe we developed a response generalization to strangers if there is not family or clan to provide protection.”
The younger imam was a little caught off guard.  “Yes Imam, in this case I do, but I hesitate to add that, in general, one cannot count on other people in as well as you can count on family, clan members and fellow believers.
The writer cannot imagine if we do not have a family member, clan, and fellow believer, how can people live in this wild world. That is why Allah created mother, father, brother, and sister. If people live without them, how can people share their everyday problems.
Bringing up Religion, Country, and Culture
Bringing up religion, country, and culture in one’s life is very importance, especially a good character of one’s religion, country, and culture. As the first president of Indonesia Mr. Soekarno said about it “JASMERAH (jangan sekali-kali melupakan sejarah)”, means “do not ever forget the history!”. There are many obligations in Islam, such as doing 5 times prayer, doing fasting, or even a good characters, such as honesty, sincerity, surrendering, etc. A good values in a country, especially Indonesia, like gotong royong (work together), musyawarah/ mufakat (discussion), etc. A good values in a culture, such as reciting Al-Quran after maghrib prayer, girls do not go out in the night, etc. As Muslims, people do not have to forget this values in their daily life, even if they school in America, Australia, England, China, etc. Some people when they go abroad, they are forgetting this great values, so that, they become contaminated with their culture. They are contaminated with pop culture, clubbing culture, free sex, drugs, etc.
As in the data:
“Our bodies are not, but if you have been brought up in the desert, your head and heart are always partially there.  Our ancestors were there and the stories and maxims that form our culture come from the desert.”  His father nodded in agreement.
When Imam Wakil Rachid explained to Mark Mansur that he does not have to forget their culture in his country, he said to Wakil Rachid “I think I understand. You explain it very well. But we are not in the desert any more”. So, Wakil Rachid replied “Our bodies are not, but if you have been brought up in the desert, your head and heart are always partially there.  Our ancestors were there and the stories and maxims that form our culture come from the desert”. It can be explained that Mark said that America was a different country, when he was in America, he would be a different person, like American people (not in desert any more). Then Wakil Rachid replied that of course our body is in a different country, but if we can bring up the desert, we can bring the desert to there. Our history, maxims and stories were there. From that it can be gotten philosophical values, how to bring up one’s country to another country, how to bring up one’s religion to another religion, and how to bring up one’s culture and civilization to another culture and civilization.
This value is one of the best value in this drama. It is because this value means that bringing up one’s country to another country is one of one’s obligatory. Even if people go abroad, people do not forget their religion, their culture, and do not make the abroad culture as their culture. It will be dangerous thing. It is one of philosophical values in life.
Love is worrying, care, and feeling afraid
Worrying, care, and feeling is some of signs of love. They are signs and tokens that lover is always wanting the best for someone he or she loves. Worrying is feeling hesitation that someone or something is going well or not. Caring is an attention to someone or something. Afraid is more than feeling worry, it means a fear that someone or something will be lost. They are all the signs and the tokens of love.
As in the data:
“I didn’t realize that Papa would worry about so many things.  I guess I should have talked to him more about college life before he arrived.  I’m sorry Papa.  I just didn’t think.  You never had the opportunity to go to college, so all this is new to you.”
In the above data, it shows that Mark’s father, Abdullah Mansur, was always worry about his child, because his child took college in America. He thought that America is a freedom country, and Abdullah was afraid that Mark would not be in a good Islamic environment. So that, Mark would be in a big problem and he would be isolated from Islamic teachings. It makes a sense that Mark’s father worry about him. America is a big country in which that a majority of the people are Christians, and Islam is one of minority over there.
In Islam, worrying is not a mistake. In Islam, worrying to someone who loves is required. Sometimes parents are worry to their children because they are afraid of their children do something terrible in their life such as drugs abuses, rape, free sex, unsuccessful in education, etc. In this case, worry is not only required, but is a must. As in surah At-Tahrim:6 told beautifully how to worry about people’s worry and families not to be tortured to the hell.
O you who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who disobey not, (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allâh, but do that which they are commanded. (At-Tahrim, 66:6)
In other data:
1.     “Your father is not sure that the environment is good for a young, impressionable young man of your age,” Wakil Rachid interpreted.
This data shows a care of a father to his child, especially a first child. A care of father can be included in philosophical value of love. Father always wanted the best for their children, so that they take care and feel so worry to them. As Muslim’s father, he has to take care of his children. In Islam, a father is an Imam or means the leader of his family member, which contains father, mother, and children. One of a duty of a father is to take care to his family member condition. Too many ways to take care to the children, like by questioning about his/her condition, questioning about any problems, and giving a solution to solve those problems. A care is also a sign of love.
A care is one of Islamic value. Allah is always caring to his servant. So that, He ordered his servants to do everything in His way. He ordered them to pray, to do fasting, pray tahajjud, to do pilgrimage, to do charity, it is because He always care to His servant. We do all of Allah’s command is for Allah, but the benefits are for His servant.
As Allah said in surah An-Nisa’:
When you are greeted with a greeting, greet in return with what is better than it, or (at least) return it equally. Certainly, Allâh is Ever a Careful Account Taker of all things. (4:86)
Allah also ordered people to take care to their parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age, Allah orders people to take care about them. As firman Allah surah Al-Isra’:
And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour. (al-isra’, 17:23)
Also, in other data:

“I think that is exactly what your father is afraid of—not you per se—but the influences that you are under there.  He wanted to discuss it with you, but feels that he may not be experienced or educated enough to interpret what he saw and experienced.  So that is why he asked me if I would help.  He just worries about you.  You are his first child, the first son, and you are no longer at home most of the time.”
It can be concluded that Mark’s father afraid that Mark will be influenced by American people, especially his colleagues, class-mates, and room-mates in America. This fear is because of his obligation to do the best for his child. He was afraid that Mark would decrease his knowledge in Islam, and would be influenced by American people. Fear is something happened in every people, and it is humane. In Islamic history, when one of shahabah of prophet Muhammad SAW hid in cave Hira’, shahabah afraid that they caught with the infidels. So that, prophet Muhammad SAW said to him, “Do not be afraid and do not worry, Allah will always be with us.” It can be concluded that afraid is always be with us, but we don’t be afraid of it, because Allah always sees, Allah is the omniscient,  and Allah never lets His servants in sadness, dangerous and adversity.
Sometimes, people are afraid because they love. In Islam it is humane and not extraordinary. Sometimes people are afraid to give charity because they love their money. Sometimes they are afraid to lose their parents and children because they love them. In Islam, it is ordinary. As firman Allah in Al-Quran:
Are you afraid of spending in charity before your private consultation (with him)? If then you do it not, and Allâh has forgiven you, then (at least) perform As-Salât (IqâmatasSalât) and give Zakât and obey Allâh (i.e. do all what Allâh and His Prophet SAW order you to do). And Allâh is All-Aware of what you do. (Al-Mujaidlah, 58:13)
Love is Appreciation, Concerning and Acceptance
Appreciation, concerning, and acceptance are signs of love. Furthermore, a lover must appreciate, concern, and accept someone that he or she loves. Appreciation is one step after acceptance. It means when lover’s focus is on what they love. When he or she looks at someone or something he or she loves, he or she feels joy in life. Concerning is same as appreciation. Concerning is a sign of appreciation. And acceptance means to label that someone or something is good, and when they make something wrong, he or she always forgives.
As in the data:
“I know that.  And I really appreciate what a wonderful father I have.  I really don’t want to worry him.  So I too thought that you might be able to relieve some of his anxiety—at least I hope you can.”
From the data above, it is known that Mark Mansur was really appreciate his father Abdullah Mansur. So that, he was sad when his father tended to worry, and he was distressing when his father in anxiety. It is what is said the appreciation of love. Appreciation is all about understanding. When people show their appreciation to someone, they are thanking them, but they are also telling them that they understand what they have done.
Allah is very appreciative to His servants. Because of that, that’s why Allah created the paradise and the hell. It is because His appreciation. Who became a good servant will be entered to paradise, and who became bad servant will be tortured to the hall. As firman Allah in His Glory book:
Why should Allâh punish you if you have thanked (Him) and have believed in Him. And Allâh is Ever AllAppreciative (of good), AllKnowing. (An-Nisa’, 4:147)
And also,
And whoever desires the Hereafter and strives for it, with the necessary effort due for it (i.e. do righteous deeds of Allâh's Obedience) while he is a believer (in the Oneness of Allâh Islâmic Monotheism), then such are the ones whose striving shall be appreciated, thanked and rewarded (by Allâh). 19. (Al-Isra’, 17:19)

And also in other data:
“……….He has shared with me only that he is concerned about you—apparently the result of his trip to Ann Arbor to pick you up.”
It explains in the data above, that Abdullah Mansur concerned in Mark Mansur’s problem as a father. Concerning is one of value of love, love of a father and a child. Concerning shows that love is the appreciation, which is people focus on someone that they love, and what they really like about someone. If they love someone, automatically they often give their concentration to make him/her in a happy life, in secure, and save. Parents must concern to their children’s problem. Whether it is a problem in family, in school, or in his social environment. Parents’ concentration to children often makes a sense with the success of their children in the future. So that, parents have a whole obligation on children’s education, beside teachers.
Concerning is one values of love. Allah always loves His servants. That’s why He always concerns with His servants conditions. In Al-Quran there are many verses contains Allah’s concerning to His servants. As in the below verse about concerning woman, especially an orphan woman:
They ask your legal instruction concerning women, say: Allâh instructs you about them, and about what is recited unto you in the Book concerning the orphan girls whom you give not the prescribed portions (as regards Mahr and inheritance) and yet whom you desire to marry, and (concerning) the children who are weak and oppressed, and that you stand firm for justice to orphans. And whatever good you do, Allâh is Ever AllAware of it. (An-Nisa’, 4:127)
Also, in other data:
1.     The father didn’t accept that so quickly.  “I didn’t know if what Mark was doing was forbidden; that is one of the reasons we wanted to see you.  He doesn’t want to do anything that is haraam—forbidden—I’m sure.”
It is found in the data above that Abdullah Mansur didn’t believed that his son would do something haraam. Mark Mansur, will never do haraam, exactly. It contains a power of believe in love. It means that, if people love someone, they have to believe that he/she never do it without meaning. If people do not  believe in their lover, the question is who wanted to believe in him/her.
In Islamic perspective, acceptance is one of value of love. Allah always accepts all of His servant who ever did a big sin to come back to His side, means to repent and forswear to Him. If their sins are like a mountain, His mercy is bigger than that. As in surah Al-Baqarah 54:
And (remember) when Mûsa (Moses) said to his people: "O my people! Verily, you have wronged yourselves by worshipping the calf. So turn in repentance to your Creator and kill yourselves (the innocent kill the wrongdoers among you), that will be better for you with your Lord." Then He accepted your repentance. Truly, He is the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful. (Al-Baqarah, 2:54).
Conclusion
Lewis D. Eigen is an American political expert. But, beyond expectation, he is also an expert in Islamic teachings. He is a genius because he can spread a beauty of Islam by drama dialogue that can answer many bad opinions about Islam. He can spread the beauty of Islam in easy way. “College in America” is one of his drama script that contains many philosophical values of life and love. The writer cannot mention one by one all the philosophical values in this drama, because of the limited words and article, but he just can mention only the most significance. In this drama, the writer only mentions some values of life, they are honoring parents, helping others even the unbelievers, and bringing up the country. And some values of love in this drama are love is worrying, care, feeling afraid, and love is appreciation, concerning, and acceptance.
The writer hopes that this article could give the reader a philosophical values, especially in the essence of life and love. So that  they could take lesson learned and make it guidance to apply in every day’s life. The writer also hopes the student can spread philosophical values in daily life activity. So, they could study hard and never give up to face wild life, because they still have love. And also this article is wanted to give a good contribution to the parents and teacher in building the character of their students and their children. So, they could teach the students about philosophical values in the essence of life and love.
