Improving the Fourth Grade Students Speaking Skill At SDN Ngroto 02 Pujon – Malang.

Introduction
This chapter covers background of study, problem of the study, hypothesis, objective of the study, purpose of the study, significance of the study, scope and limitation of the study, and definition of key terms.
1.1  Background of the study
            Language plays very important in human life. Without language people around the world cannot communicate one each other and cannot get any information, therefore with the language, People can make communication easier and get information wherever they are. Considering of the important the language above, English as one of the languages, used international facilities people to get along with other over world state that English is use widely all over the world: it is for business, diplomacy, science, culture, and education.
            Language related to the speaking that students must learn, so speaking becomes one of skill that students have in English learning.
            In English teaching learning process, media are very useful because there are many differences between a foreign language and native language. Kasbollah (1993)  stated that the students that have English as their native language easier to understand the teacher explanation than the students have English as their foreign language such students at SDN Ngroto 02 Pujon faced so that media like pictures and games can prevent misunderstanding in teacher’s explanation.
            For preliminary studies, the researcher identified the problems faced by students of speaking skill at SDN Ngroto 02 Pujon- Malang by using observation and interview at fourth grade students of SDN Ngroto 02 Pujon- Malang. The researcher found out some problems faced by students. Firstly, students do not have any time to practice or lack of practice English. Teacher must give them much time to say something. Secondly, students also get difficulties in accent of mother tongue. Thirdly, students are afraid of making mistakes or losing face because they frightened to get criticism. On other word, students are very shy. Students cannot say anything because they do not have an idea to speak .A teacher should give them motivation and spirit to speak English. Speaking is to express think aloud, using the voice; talk (Longman dictionary of contemporary English 1998). 
            Based on the background above the researcher was interested in applying the new teaching technique in that school. The researcher wants to improve they are speaking skill especially in they are pronunciation at SDN Ngroto 02 Pujon-Malang by using pictures and games as media. Because, this school has a big number of low speaking  ability exactly in students pronunciation especially “four grade” the average speaking skill performance point in this class was 5,8.The researcher has observed at SDN Ngroto 02 Pujon-Malang that the students could not use English even in a simple conversation such as asking for and giving. Most students preferred to keep silent then asking question or answering the teacher’s questions. They are shy to speaking English and afraid to make mistake in pronunciation.   The researcher hopes by using pictures and games as media, students can learn the language easily, practice the language more in the group of discussion and have good pronunciation easily.                                         
            It is necessary for the teachers to know about the use of media in accordance with instructional objectives. Consequently, teachers should have skill in choosing and using the media well.
            Being aware of the importance and the effectiveness of using media in teaching English, the researcher would like to know the use of the pictures and games in teaching English at SDN Ngroto 02 Pujon Malang. The media can be effective means to transfer information. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct this study since media have a very important role in teaching and learning process. 
1.2 Problem of the study
            Based on the background of the study above, the statement of the problem is as follow:
How can pictures and games as media improve the students’ speaking mastery on the fourth grade students at SDN Ngroto 02 pujon Malang?
1.3 Purpose of the study
            In accordance of the research problem, the objective of study is to describe how pictures and games as a media can improve student’s speaking mastery of fourth grade students at SDN Ngroto 02 Pujon Malang. 

1.4 Hypothesis
If the researcher teaches the students by using games and pictures as media, so that their English speaking achievement will increase in the end of semester.
1.5 Scope and limitation
The researcher focuses on analyzing the use of media involving visual, audio and audiovisual media In fourth grade SDN Ngroto 02 Pujon Malang.  
The media, which are used in this study, are flashcard, picture file, chart and real object. The researcher will analyze the use of those pictures and games in teaching speaking skill to know students’ achievement.
 1.6 The Significant Of the Study     
            The result of this study will make students easier to study the English by using pictures and games, this study would be useful for the English teacher, whereas theoretically the finding of this study is a contribution for the development of media in teaching English. And it will make students more active in learning process especially for speaking skill even it will build students’ confidence to speak English.
 1.7 The Definition of the Key Terms
    1.     Improving in this study is to increase the students’ score on speaking skill especially in pronunciation.
      2.     Speaking Skill refers to the students’ skill to give information, to expect their ideas orally which is showed by their speaking score.
      3.     Picture is small copy or model of something that was taken out from magazine, real object, flash cards, chart, etc. Used as a teaching media to teach English.
    4.      Guessing Games: they refer to a type of game in which the essential rule of the game is that students have to find out something word, phrase or sentence that is hidden from them through guessing.
